Virginia Marie Swingle
Virginia Marie Swingle, age 89 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday (July 24, 2012) at the Northeast Regional Medical Center.
Virginia was born on May 30, 1923 in Winigan, MO, the daughter of Hubert and Sylvia Greenstreet Thrasher. She was united marriage to Truman Louis Swingle on January 18, 1942 in Santa Monica, California who preceded her in death on April 18, 2001.
She was born in Winnegan and attended school in Brookfield. She attended the Kirksville High School and graduated in 1941. She went to California to marry Truman and they lived in California for five years. In 1949 they returned to Kirksville to live on the family farm. Virginia worked by her husband’s side on the family farm for over 50 years. She was a member of the Bullion United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and had been a 4-H leader and member of the PTA.
Virginia had a love for music and encouraged her children to take music lessons she was a talented artist and enjoyed sewing, gardening especially flowers, and she enjoyed riding her four wheeler. She was known to have a kind word for everyone and a strong faith. She had a special place in her heart for her children and grandchildren whom she loved so dearly.
Virginia is survived by one son, Truman Swingle, Jr. and wife Helen of Kirksville; two daughters, Gaye Ann Cook and husband Paul W. of St. Charles, MO and Carol Hays and husband Larry of Kirksville; nine grandchildren, T. J. Swingle, Barton Swingle, Robert Cook, Jeffrey Cook, Lori Orso, Tyler Hays, Carli Hays, Heidi Hays and Corey Hays; five great grandchildren, Alexa Cook, Elizabeth Cook, Owen Cook, Lorelei Orso and Andrew Hays and two nephews, Mike Thrasher and Steve Thrasher.
In addition to her husband Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Donald Thrasher.
A funeral service will held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (July 28, 2012) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Northcutt officiating. Musical selections will be “Amazing Grace” and “Go Rest High on the Mountain”. Interment will be in the Park View Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until the time of the service on Saturday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer-Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
