Jimmy Clinkenbeard

Jimmy Dean Clinkenbeard, 71, of Unionville, MO, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, August 5, 2012.
Jimmy was born December 24, 1940, to Pearl and Flo (Vincent) Clinkenbeard, who preceded him in death, and was raised in the Chariton community of Putnam County, MO. He attended the Wells grade school and graduated from the Livonia High School in 1958.
Jimmy married Shirley Ann Haines on July 26, 1959 at the Mt. Hermon Methodist Church and she survives at home. Jimmy and Shirley made their home in the Omaha and Chariton area following a brief stay in California where Jimmy worked for North American Aviation. Jimmy worked at Union Carbide, later known as Viskase, and lived at Centerville, IA, at the time, but wanted to move back to the Omaha area to live on the home place, which they did and they lived there for 35 years. During those 35 years he continued working for Viskase, farmed, operated the township maintainer, and helped establish the Liberty Township Fire Protection District. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling with his family and two trips to Brazil for his job. Jimmy loved to build and fly model airplanes and had several friends that he flew with.
Music was a big part of his life; he played by ear and learned to play guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, and bass. Jimmy had a great ability with metal and welding; he built several trailers, bale rings, log splitters and any thing else he needed. Jimmy and Shirley moved to Unionville in the fall of 2009 where they have enjoyed new neighbors and the comforts of town life.
In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by two daughters, Theresa Hammett and husband Dr. Alten Ray (Theresa has the same love of music as her dad and they enjoyed many days of playing together); and Melissa Henderson and husband David, who live on the home place. (Melissa and her dad talked a lot about the farm and grandkids.) Two grandsons also survive: Christopher Allen Henderson and wife Elizabeth of Albia, IA, (Christopher inherited his grandpa’s love of welding and is a certified welder); and Talon Dean Henderson who carries Jim’s middle name and will be attending college this fall. Three sisters also survive: Margle Wright and husband Don of the state of California, Susie Mullins and husband Harold of Cuba, MO; and Delphia Finch and husband Stanley of Unionville, MO. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Jimmy Clinkenbeard will be at 2:00 Friday, August 10, at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Kathy Morrison will conduct the service with recorded music “Peace in the Valley,” “Precious Lord, Take my Hand,” and “The Old Rugged Cross” provided by Theresa Hammett. Casket bearers will be David Henderson, Dr. Alten Hammett, III, Chris Henderson, Talon Dean Henderson, Jamie Finch and Donald Mullins. Honorary casket bearers will be Gerald Finch, Steven Mullins, Harold Mullins, Stanley Finch, Don Wright, and Kenny Wright. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery north of Livonia, MO.
Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Hermon Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
