Perley graduated from Queen City High School with the class of 1942. He drove a bus in Schuyler County for over 40 years transporting students to countless ball games, senior trips, parades, and contests. He was proud that in all those years he never had an accident and parents knew their children would return home safely. In 1970, they moved to the family farm west of Queen City where he raised sheep and hauled gravel. Perley loved listening to country music, reading the local county paper along with the Kirksville Daily Express, Sunday Des Moines Register, and traveling around the United States. Branson was his favorite destination. He was a very content man who was proud of his family and always had a smile. The simple things in life like eating a bowl of ice cream, snacking on iced oatmeal cookies, and showing the grandchildren baby lambs made him happy.
Perley was a life-long member of the Queen City Christian Church. He was honored at the Schuyler R-1 Alumni Reunion for his service to the school. He was proud to serve as Grand Marshall at Pioneer Days.
