Frederick Calvin Calhoun, 87, of rural Queen City passed away Friday evening (September 7, 2012) at his home.

The son of Benjamin and Maude (Vittetoe) Calhoon, he was born March 18, 1925 in Queen City. On November 10, 1947 he was united in marriage to Georgia Lee (Barnett) Calhoun at the Queen City Methodist Church with the Reverend Perley Lind officiating.

He is survived by one daughter, Jean Robbins and husband Dave of Queen City, MO; two granddaughters, Amanda Mountain of Greentop, MO and Lindsey Ellis and husband Caleb of Stanberry, MO, three great grandchildren, Haylie and Joseph Mountain both of Greentop, and Lane Ellis of Stanberry, a sister, Loris Neeley of Sierra Vista, AZ, two step-grandsons, Daniel Robbins and wife Annette of Greentop, MO Clayton Robbins of Liberty, MO; three step-great grandchildren, eleven nieces and nephews and two special friends, Martha Bucklin and Marcia York.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia, on August 11, 2004, his father in October 1961, his mother in September 1978, one brother John Calhoun in January 1974, a sister Wilma Gosser on June 9, 2006, an infant sister and three nephews.

Fred grew up in Queen City attending school at the Queen City School. In 1944 he joined the Maritime Service and was called to duty in 1945 serving in the Merchant Marines until his honorable discharge in 1946. He worked at Missouri Power & Light Company (now Ameren UE) as a groundman/winch truck driver from 1946 until his retirement in 1982 after 35 years of employment service with them.

He was a member of the Queen City United Methodist Church. Fred was active in helping start the Queen City Pioneer organization, being the first president of that board and participated in that organization for several years. He enjoyed restoring antique engines and tractors and attended many antique engine shows over the years.

He was a loving and supportive husband for nearly 57 years, a wonderful father, grandfather & great grandfather being a strong patriarch of his family. He loved spending time with his family and living out his life on his farm.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 12, 2012) at Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Ben Wheeler officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Queen City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Phil Calhoun, Mike Calhoun, Richard Western, Chris Calhoun, John Shumate and Tom Calhoun. Honorary bearers will be Carol Western, Tanna Calhoun, Jill Moncrief, Jana Hatfield, Melissa Steimel, Sara Morris, Beth Shumate, Loretta Shumate, Jenny Lou Zenner and Joan Filkins.

Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, Mo 63561 660-766-2241

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Schuyler County Nutrition Site or Hospice of Northeast Missouri.
