Gerald Bodisch, 69, of Unionville, MO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.
Gerald (Jerry) Robert Bodisch was born in Dubuque, IA, on May 31, 1943, the son of William and Mamie (Belk) Bodisch, who preceded him in death. Jerry grew up and attended school in the Dubuque area and then enlisted in the United States Army, serving until his honorable discharge on May 30, 1966. On October 14, 1967, Jerry was united in marriage to Shirley DeMoss in Bethany, MO, and she survives at home in Unionville.
Right after his service in the Army Jerry started his career at Chrysler in Belvidere, IL. He worked there for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He and Shirley had lived in Love Park, IL, for 31 years. Jerry and Shirley moved to Unionville, MO, after retirement. Jerry will always be remembered for his strong opinions on politics, his passion for driving Harley’s alongside Shirley, for visiting friends and families and most of all for his precious love for his grandsons.
In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by a son, Donald Bodisch of Unionville, MO, and a daughter, Cindy Melville and husband Chris of Columbia, MO. Two grandsons survive, Aaron Edwin and Ian Robert Melville. He is also survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as nieces and nephews, many cousins, his Chrysler buddies and many relatives in Wisconsin. Special cousins, Albert and Betty Bodisch and their sons also survive in Dubuque.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his in-laws, Delbert and Francis DeMoss, brother-in-law Howie Stevens and sister-in-law Lynn DeMoss.
The family would like to thank the staff at Boone Hospital for their wonderful care for Jerry, especially Dr. Ryan, and nurses Nancy and Ebony.
Jerry’s request was for his body to be cremated and a private family service to be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
