Virginia Hancock
Virginia Hancock passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on Thursday, October 4, 2012. She was 92 years of age.
Dorothy Virginia Hancock was born in the Stringtown community of Putnam County, MO, on May 21, 1920, the daughter of Walter R. and Jennie Mae (Probasco) Huffaker, who preceded her in death. She married Wallace P. Hancock on October 5, 1940 and he preceded her in death in May of 1978.
Virginia lived nearly her entire life in Putnam County. She was a homemaker, rearing her children and providing for her family. In later years she worked as a dietary aide for the Putnam Care Center. She was a quiet, unassuming lady, but a lady in every sense of the word. She was always polite and gracious and had a sharp mind and quiet sense of humor. Virginia liked to sew and make quilts. She was a member of the Stringtown Christian Church.
Virginia is survived by one son, Leslie L. Hancock and his wife Brenda, of Jefferson City, MO; two step-sons, Larry Hancock of Long Beach, CA, and Paul Hancock of North Las Vegas, NV; and a step-daughter, Virginia Terris of Newton, IA. Seventeen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren also survive, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by four sons, Leland O. Hancock, L. David Hancock, Robert L. Hancock, and Delbert Gene Hancock. Two brothers, Clifford Huffaker and Carl Huffaker as well as two sisters, Lenora Walker and Olive Duhon, also preceded Virginia in death.
Graveside services for Virginia Hancock will held at the Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, MO, on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 10:30 am. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Putnam County Care Center and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO, 63565.
