Jerry W. Crist
Jerry W. Crist, age 70, passed away at Boone County Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, following an unexpected illness.
Born December 18, 1941, in Kirksville, Missouri, to W.L. and Maxine (Phillips) Crist, he attended Kirksville schools, graduating with the class of 1959. Following high school, Jerry attended Moler Barber College in Kansas City, Missouri. On March 5, 1960, he was united in marriage to Rama Custer.
Jerry barbered in Kirksville for more than 20 years before going into the construction and rental property business. After retirement, he fulfilled his love of cars by restoring several classic automobiles; his favorite being the ’57 Chevy much like the one he owned in 1959.
Jerry was a member of the First Christian Church of Kirksville, where he had served as Chair of the Board, Elder and Deacon. He was also a member and past-President of the El Kadir Shrine Club, a member and past-Master of the Adair County Masonic Lodge #105 A.F. & A.F., a member of the Kirksville Moose Lodge and the Spring Lake Board. Jerry had served on the Board of Directors of the Kirksville Savings and Loan and on the Kirksville Planning and Zoning Commission.
Jerry was known for his passion for cars and boats and loved nothing better than making a deal for either one. Jerry and Rama spent many years enjoying time at both Spring Lake and Lake of the Ozarks. He also greatly enjoyed his 6:00 a.m. coffee group with friends.
Jerry designed and built many homes in the Kirksville community and after retirement shared his expertise and experience with others.
Jerry will be remembered as an honest and caring friend, loving and faithful husband, and an extremely proud father and grandfather.
Jerry is survived by Rama Crist, his wife of 52 years; sons, Jeff Crist and wife Melanee, of Kirksville, Tim Crist of Kirksville, and Matt Crist and wife Shannon, of Moberly; grandchildren, Conner Crist, Maggie Crist, Camryn Crist and Harper Crist; brother, Don Crist and wife Mary Fran; sister-in-law, Roma Graham and husband Jim; sister-in-law, Joyce Logli and husband Chuck; uncle, Robert Crist and wife Betty Lou; aunt, Maysel Crist; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 2:00 p.m. Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
