Juanita Simpson
Geneva Juanita Simpson age 100, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at her home.
The daughter of Houston B. and Melinda Elizabeth (Evans) Wrinkle, Juanita was born January 13, 1912 in Hazelgreen, MO. On December 17, 1929 she was united in marriage to H. Greene Simpson who preceded her in death on June 10, 1995. They had celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Virgle and Ralph and; one sister, Minnie Lambeth.
Juanita is survived by one son, Henry Greene Simpson and wife Betty of Exeter, CA; two daughters, Judie Ellis and husband, Richard of Kirksville and Mary Ellen Simpson of St. Charles, MO; ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, Greg (Barbara) Simpson and children, Rick & Sally Warren, Elizabeth & Jason Miller, Michelle & Steve Heinrichs; Berit Maxwell of Exeter, CA and children, Josh and Riley; Mark (Cindy) Simpson of Exeter, CA and daughters, Terri Ann and Katie; Melinda (Tod) Engle Champaign, IL and children, Whitney, Alexander and Zakary; Richard (Larenda) Ellis of Kirksville and children, Stacie and Sara; Stephen (Melissa) Ellis of Kirksville and daughter, Madelyn; Paul (Jen) Stumpf of St. Charles, MO and children, Nate and Emily; Jason (Katherine) Stumpf of Chesterfield, MO and children, Alex, Samantha and Logan Robert Stumpf of St. Louis, MO; and Christine Stumpf of St. Charles, MO and several nieces and nephews.
Juanita and Greene moved to Kirksville in 1933 and a few years later they purchased the Graphic Printing Company which later became the Simpson Printing Company. Juanita was very involved in the community, serving on the Welfare board, was involved in P.T.A., the Kirksville Country Club, served as President of Sojourners Club and was very proud to have held all the offices in that club and continued to be an active member until her health failed. She was a member of Chapter CZ, P.E.O. having served as Vice-President, She and Greene also belonged to the Kirksville Saddle Club for many years. She belonged to several bridge clubs through the years and enjoyed entertaining.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kirksville since 1933 where she served as President of the Woman’s Missionary Society with over 100 members at that time; She also taught a Sunday school class and sang in the church choir for many years. She and Greene were among the founding members of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Kirksville.
Juanita will be remembered for her sense of humor, being a hard worker and her love for the Lord. She was known to many by the name Baba, a name given to her by her grandson.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Clyde Enyeart officiating. Taped musical selections, “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and “When They Ring Those Golden Bells” will be sung by Judie Ellis. Burial will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Stephen Ellis, Rich Ellis, Tod Engle, Paul Stumpf, Jason Stumpf and Robert Stumpf. Honorary bearers will be Mark Simpson, Greg Simpson, Glen Novinger, Dick Valuck, Wayne Newman, Jack McGruder, Ed Smiser, Kenny Miller, Don Noble and Fred Schawanner.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, with a P.E.O. Service at 2:00 p.m. at the
