Ben Breeding, 85, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, MO, on December 24, 2012. He had been a resident there for about six months.
Benjamin Herman Breeding was born in Ottumwa, IA, on May 28, 1927, the son James H. and DesMoines (Boatman) Breeding, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Oskaloosa (IA) High School. Ben enlisted in the United States Navy on September 17, 1944 and served until July 12, 1946. He also was in the Navy from 1948-1951, serving in the Korean theatre. Ben married Dorothy (Hoyt) Stufflebean on February 3, 1962, in Unionville, MO. Ben and Dorothy lived their entire married life in Unionville where Ben worked for J. Burdman Auto Parts and later opened Ben’s Boots where he did shoe repair and sold boots. He retired from this business.
Ben enjoyed and was well known for raising and training bird dogs. He was a kind and generous person, honest in all his business dealings, and friendly to all he knew. Ben told a good joke and had a good sense of humor. He was a faithful caregiver for Dorothy at the Care Center.
Ben is survived by his wife, Dorothy Breeding of Unionville, MO, a daughter, Diane (Rich) Peterson of Yoder, IN; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. A step-son, George (Becky) Stufflebean of Kirksville, MO, survives along with two grandchildren and six great grandchildren, as well as a step-daughter, Neita Collins and her family of Osage Beach, MO.
Ben was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Breeding, Vernon Breeding, and Robert Breeding.
Memorials services for Ben Breeding will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Ben’s body will be cremated at his request and interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested for Ben to the donor’s choice.
