Allen L. Myers
Allen L. Myers, 93 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday (January 2, 2013) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
The son of Leo and Iva (May) Myers, he was born December 24, 1919 in Worthington, MO. At an early age he moved to Kansas City where he graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1938. On September 21, 1940 in Unionville, MO he married Lois Davis and he was blessed with 71 years of marriage. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1944 to January 1946, serving with the 10
th
Mountain Division in Northern Italy. He received the Army combat infantry badge and 3 bronze stars for the Italy campaigns. In January of 1946 he started in the lumber business in Winterset, IA and in 1951 he moved to Kirksville where he continued in the lumber business selling lumber throughout the Midwest, Spain and Japan. In later years he worked for Tex O Cal of Texas as a lumber buyer and did not fully retire until the age of 85. He has resided at Twin Pines Adult Care Center the last eight months. He was a fair, honest and giving person; had a firm belief in his faith and was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He was a second Dad to many.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a former member of the Kirksville Moose Lodge, Masonic lodge and the El Kadir Shrine Club.
Allen is survived by his three children, Carol (Myers) Craig, Roger Myers (Alice) and Kathy (Myers) Ward (Jack); grandchildren, Jennifer (Craig) Hodges (Brian) of St. Charles, MO, Kristi Young of Ft. Myers, FL, Kip Myers and Kirk Myers of Brooklyn, NY, Aaron Young of Burbank, CA; great grandson, Zach Hodges of St. Charles, MO; step grandchildren, Melissa (Troy) Fergerson, Shawn Wilkinson (Samaneh) of Kansas City, MO Julie and Jacquie Ward of Columbia, MO; step great grandchildren, Griffin and Maya Fergerson, Laila Wilkinson; niece and nephews, Linda (Myers) Robison, Gary & Richard Myers; special cousins, Betty Ledford, Helen Welsh, Marilee Beeler, Phyllis Kessel, and Terry Richardson; and dear family friend, Joy Ebest. He had a lot of friends at Twin Pines and a special friend Dr. John Roderick that was at his bedside with Allen’s family at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois on July 6, 2012; one brother, Roy Myers and two grandsons, Lance Young on Sept. 4, 1973 and Jeffrey T. Craig on Dec. 29, 2011.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (January 5, 2013) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Pitney officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
