Charles Wesley Cannaday 88, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The son of Daniel and Ola B. (Buckner) Cannaday, he was born November 26, 1924 in Cape Girardeau, MO. On September 7, 1947 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Natalie Joyce Miller who preceded him in death on May 27, 2012. Also preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters and two brothers.

Charles is survived by two sons, Charles Miller Cannaday and wife Lana of Kirksville and Jeffrey Cannaday and wife Janet of Joshua, TX; three brothers, K. D. Cannaday, Martin Cannaday and wife Betty of Dunnellon, FL and Travis Gene Cannaday of Tampa, FL; three grandchildren, Charles Miller Cannaday, Jr, Damien Cannaday and Christopher Cannaday and five great-grandchildren.

Charles was reared in Cape Girardeau, MO where he attended school. He served in the U. S.  Air Force during World War II as a Gunner on a B17. He retired from the Air Force Auxiliary as a Lt.Colonel. He was active as a Colonel in the local Civil Air Patrol. After his marriage he worked for Karl Miller in his appliance store until 1957 when he moved to St. Louis, MO and was employed by Travelers Insurance Co. They moved to Tulsa, OK and in 1965 he moved to Duluth, MN where they lived until moving to Chicago, IL in 1970. In 1974 they moved to Cedar Rapids, IA where he retired and moved to Kirksville in 1975 to help manage the Miller & Karlton apartments. After selling insurance he began teaching continued education classes in 1980 for A. D. Banker, teaching bankers, real estate agencies and others who sold insurance.

Charles was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kirksville, Masonic Lodge #366 A.F.&A.M for 63 years, Kirksville York Rite Bodies, Molia Temple and El Kadir Shrine Club where he was a member for 61 years. He was a member of the Jaycees, serving as President of the MO Jaycees and Vice President of the National Jaycees.

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Michael McCormack officiating. A Masonic Service will be conducted by Lodge #366 A.F. & A.M.  Entombment and Military Service will be at the Maple Hills Chapel Mausoleum in Kirksville.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home 2100 E. Shepherd Ave. Kirksville, MO 63501   660-665-2233

Memorials have been suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, El Kadir Shrine Club or the Rainbow Center.
