Floyd Klingsmith
Floyd Klingsmith, 68, of rural Unionville, MO, passed away at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO, on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
Floyd William Klingsmith was born in Yarrow, MO, on April 28, 1944, the son of Muter Ellis Klingsmith and Viola Stone-Miller, who preceded him in death. He was reared in Putnam County where he had a difficult childhood, but Floyd was a person with a resilient character. He was taken in at the age of 13 by Glen and Mary Butler, who treated him well; Floyd thought of Glen as a father. He married Linda Rowland on June 8, 1963, at her parent’s home in Omaha, MO.
Although possessing little formal education, Floyd was a self-taught man in many areas of life and work. He worked as a mechanic, (once owning his own shop), as a millwright, (working all over the country), a meat cutter, factory worker, in the coal mines and at PSF in Putnam County. His favorite work was as a farmer.
Floyd liked to hunt and fish and raise a garden. Although he suffered a terrible injury two years before his death, he maintained a good attitude, continuing his teasing and pestering ways. He loved his family dearly and they returned that love with excellent care over the past two years. Floyd was baptized at Rehoboth church in Putnam County in 1961.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Linda, and two daughters, Cindy Blankenship and husband Philip of Unionville, MO, and Krista Schoonover and husband Chris of Unionville, MO. Grandchildren are A. J. Blankenship, Josh Blankenship and fiancée Jackie Wells, Ariel Parsons and husband Wes, Desiree Schoonover and fiancée James Wood, Montana Schoonover, and Hunter Schoonover. Jack Blankenship, a special great grandson who was the light of Floyd’s life, also survives. Floyd is survived by three brothers, Charles Klingsmith, Ben Klingsmith, Jim Klingsmith, and a sister, Michelle Hyde.
Floyd was also preceded in death by a son, Floyd William, Jr. who died in infancy, a brother, John Klingsmith and a sister, Hazel Klingsmith.
Memorial services will are at Hartford Baptist Church at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 5, 2013. There will be no visitation. Floyd was cremated and burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the family and entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
