Iva Arlene Corbin

Iva Arlene Corbin passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the age of 86, while residing at the Putnam County Care Center.


Iva Arlene Wood was born in Gilbert, IA, on June 24, 1926 to Harry and Margaret (Eckard) Wood. She married Alford Junior (Jr.) Corbin in June of 1942 and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2005. They were the parents of six children: Janette, Deanna, Alford, Paul, Rachele, and Delila.

Iva and Junior spent most of their married life in Fernald, IA, and then moved to Nevada, IA, where Iva worked at The Poultry House, “candling” eggs that were later sent to stores throughout central Iowa.

Iva and Junior traveled to the Newtown/Unionville, MO, area in 1975 where Junior enjoyed working on the farm outside Newtown with his son Alford. Iva was an excellent cook, her specialty being fresh baked cinnamon rolls, which were a big treat for family and friends alike. Iva enjoyed embroidery and putting puzzles together. She also liked going fishing, animals, walking and spending time with family (always the best medicine). Iva never knew a stranger and you were always welcome at her table. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Unionville, MO.


Iva was preceded in death by her parents, husband, all her brothers and sisters, and a daughter, Delila.

She is survived by three daughters, Janette Dixon of Enid, OK; Deanna Lint of Fayetteville, AR; and Rachele Smith of Nevada, IA; as well as two sons, Alford A. Reger of Newtown, MO, and Paul Corbin of Lockridge, IA. Thirteen grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren also survive as well as two sisters-in-law, Doris Whipple and Violet Corbin. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.


A visitation will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 26, 2013. Graveside services will be held at the Murphy Cemetery, Story County, IA, at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 28, 2013.


Memorials for Iva are suggested to the Putnam County Care Center and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
