Maurice H. Shouse, 95 of Kirksville passed away Friday (February 8, 2013) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.


The daughter of Tom and Mary (Kessinger) Grogan, she was born June 1, 1917 in Gifford, Missouri. On February 20, 1935 in LaPlata, Missouri she was united in marriage to Merrill Shouse and he preceded her in death on October 29, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sons-in-law, Dean Martin and Bud Steen; great granddaughter, Chelsea Martin; and three brothers, Lowell, Dean and Leonard Grogan.


Maurice is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Martin of Missoula, MT and Shirlene Hartsock and husband Dave of Glenwood, MO; sister-in-law, Jane Shouse of Columbia, MO; six grandchildren, Rick (June) Martin of Missoula, MT, Ron Martin of Choctaw, OK, Bob (friend, Margo) Martin of Missoula, MT, Becky Dunn of Seattle, WA, Debbie (Randy) Munn of Kirksville and Paul (Cathy) Steen of Glenwood, MO; ten great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


Maurice received her education in LaPlata, Missouri. Maurice and her husband farmed a short time near Brashear, MO and then farmed the same farm in the Willmathsville community for 52 years. She moved to Kirksville in 2003 when she retired.


She attended the Greentop Baptist Church and loved to go to the Moose Lodge in Kirksville and play bingo and dance. She was known for her homemade Squash pie and round steak.


Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (February 13, 2013) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.


Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the
