Winford Edison Pearson
Winford Edison Pearson, 84, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 at
Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The son of Gad and Myrtle (Cassady) Pearson, he was born February 3,
1929 in Graysville, Missouri. Winford attended schools in Graysville
and Kirksville, graduating from Kirksville High School in 1946. On
February 16, 1949, Winford was united in marriage to Wanda Faye Kelley in Greentop, Missouri. They had three children.
Winford is survived by daughter, Wynette Alexander and husband
Randy of Queen City; son, Terry Pearson and wife Lisa of Kirksville; and
daughter-in-law, Joan Pearson of Sherburn, MN;
six grandchildren, Kimberly Hatton and husband Chris, Jessica
Pearson, Rachael Pearson, Ciara Pearson, Matthew Pearson, and Joshua
Pearson and fiance Rebecca White; three
great grandchildren, Lydia, Lucy, and Emma Pearson; a sister, Jeraldine
Cooper, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Preceding Winford in death were his parents, his wife, Wanda in 2005, his son, Larry in 1989, and two brothers, Junior and Dennis Pearson.
Upon high school graduation, Winford attended college and taught at
Hazel Creek School. In 1951, the family moved to Ottumwa, Iowa,
where he worked for John Morrell Company until the plant's closing in
1973. During this time, he was an active member in the Calvary Baptist
Church and was baptized on December 11, 1960. He then moved the
family to Queen City to be near aging parents, and worked as
a dispatcher at Hustead Trucking in Baring, then Simmons Trucking, in
Glenwood. He later served as administrator of the Kirksville
Moose Lodge No.1751, the position from which he retired. At the time of his death, Winford was a resident of the Schuyler County Nursing Home.
Winford was a lifelong baseball enthusiast, playing on town teams in his youth and young adulthood and following the Cardinals. He alson enjoyed fishing until health concerns prevented his doing so. He was foremost a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (February 14, 2013) at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Music will be provided by Jolene Sparks-Sublett, selections will be “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “In The Garden”. Burial will be in the Greentop Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be David Smith, Doug Pearson, David Pearson, Chris Hatton, Matthew Pearson, and Joshua Pearson. Honorary bearers will be Larry Smoyer, Ray Ambrosia, Dr. Rick Minter, Randy Alexander and Andres Razo.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the
Dooley Funeral Home
