Betty “Karen” Thompson 69, of Brashear, MO passed away Sunday, February 10th, 2013, at the University Medical Center in Columbia, MO.
The daughter of James Hugo and Gussie Lou (Brooksher) Branham, Karen was born August 17, 1943 in Elsberry, MO. On October 14th, 1961 in Edina, MO she was united in marriage to Donald L. Thompson, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James Thompson and wife, Tonja, of Stella, NC and Roger Thompson and wife, Dana, of Gibbs, MO; two daughters, Tracy Howes and husband, Alan, of Brashear, MO and Sara Williams and husband, Joe, of Greentop, MO; eleven grandchildren, Jenn Peavler, Koty Hayden, Shane Howes, Tyler Thompson, Tony Thompson and wife, Jennifer, Meredith Kesler and husband, Cody, Olivia and Allison Thompson, Dakota, Kylie, and Garrett Williams; three great-grandchildren, Tenlee Shaw, Brynn Vogel, and Haley Thompson; and one brother Dareth C. Branham and wife, Loyce, of Springfield, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Shirley Gail; two brothers, James Bruce and Dennis Lynn Branham; and one great-grandchild, Colten Ray Thompson.
Karen was raised in Edina, MO where she attended and graduated from the Edina High School. She worked at the glove factory for a short time. Donald and Karen owned and operated the hotel in Edina for 5 ½ years. They moved to Brashear in 1975. Karen operated a Day Care out of her home for 33 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Brashear. Karen was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing all kinds of cards. She also enjoyed bowling, reading, and following Sara’s basketball games.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, February 13th, 2013, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 14th, 2013, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer chapel with Reverend Daryl Draper officiating. Burial will be in the Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO.
Pallbearers will be Gary Clark, Larry Sykes, Kody Kite, Tyler Thompson, Tony Thompson and Koty Hayden.  Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Buchanan, Billie Hettinger, Larry Staton, Toby Thompson, Daniel Moots, Shane Howes, Dakota Williams, Derrick Garr and Wes Grgurich.
