Bobbie Hurley
Bobbie Hurley, 80, of Livonia, MO, passed away peacefully in his sleep while at home on Friday, February 22, 2013.
Bobbie Dee Hurley was born in Graysville, MO, on February 3, 1933, the son of Elzie Dee and Nancy Ethel (Lawson) Hurley, who preceded him in death. After school Bobbie joined the United States Army and served from 1955-1957. He married Beverly Blackburn in the state of Washington on July 23, 1957 and she survives at home.
Bobbie and Beverly moved back to Livonia after Bobbie’s discharge and they lived there for a time before moving to Waterloo, IA, where Bobbie worked at John Deere. They then moved back to Washington where Bobbie worked welding and making cabinets, which were used in the space program. The family moved to Livonia, MO, in 1969 and have made their home there since. Bobbie worked as a lead welder for Bimco in Bloomfield, IA, retiring in 1995.
Bobbie was a good mechanic who liked to tinker with engines; he also had his hobby farm and was an excellent gardener, known throughout the area for his tomatoes. Bobbie was especially well known as a gifted guitar player, playing locally and on radio with the Vincent family and with Glen Vestal and the Sheriff’s Posse. Bobbie was a faithful member and deacon at the Livonia Trinity Full Gospel Church. He will be remembered as a friendly, outgoing fellow who never met a stranger and as a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa.
In addition to his wife, Bobbie is also survived by sons Bobby Hurley and wife Beth of Evansdale, IA; Harvey Quintana and wife Alberta of Livonia, MO; James D. Hurley of Centerville, IA; and fiancée Joni Owens of Exline, IA; and Robert G. Hurley and wife Sheila of Livonia, MO. Surviving daughters are Jani Smith and husband Bruce Sr., of Livonia, MO; and Joann Weldon and husband Robert of Pueblo, CO. Twenty-four grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren survive as well as one sister, Virginia Capps of Livonia, MO.
Bobbie was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Glen, Donald and Wayne (in infancy) Hurley and by one sister, Geneva Veach. Two grandsons also preceded Bobbie in death, Jeromy Hurley and Benjamin Quintana, as well as an “adopted” son, Ronnie Miller.
At Bobbie’s request, his body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at Omaha Baptist Church at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2013.
