Steve Kolb
Stephen “Bubba” Kolb, age 64, of
Kirksville passed away Wednesday (April 10, 2013) at his home.
Steve was born February 24, 1949 in
Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of James F and Elizabeth Ann Schell Kolb. He
was united in marriage to Glenda Marie Rackers on June 6, 1970 in Jefferson
City, Missouri.
Steve is survived by his wife Glenda of
the home; one son, Jeremy James Kolb and wife Robin of Kirksville; one daughter,
Penny Kolb of the home; one brother, James Robert Kolb and wife Judy of
Jefferson City, MO; two sisters, Sandra Louise Polster of O’Fallon, MO, Schelly
Ann Smith and husband Al of Jefferson City, MO, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Steve was raised in Jefferson City, MO where
he attended St. Peter’s grade school and Helias High School.
After his graduation from high school he
attended Northeast Missouri State College (now Truman State University). After
graduation from college Steve owned and operated NEMO Drive-In in Kirksville,
MO. In 1973 he became the concessionaire at Thousand Hills State Park and held
that position for 40 years.
His son,
Jeremy, and wife, Glenda, will continue his legacy at Thousand Hills State
Park.
Steve was a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic
Church, Phi Sigma Epsilon, Kirksville Chamber of Commerce, Kirksville Parks and
Recreation Committee, Planning Committee for F.L.A.T.S., past member of the
Bi-Centennial Committee and Kirksville Jaycee’s.
Steve very much enjoyed his family and spending
time with them. He was an avid Monday night card player, enjoyed four wheeling,
boating and life at the lake.
Steve
enjoyed people and never met a stranger.
Visitation with the family will be from 12:00
to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday with the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (April 13,
2013) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Father Chris Cordes
officiating.
Special tributes will be
given by Janice Legg and Dr. Jack Magruder. Music will be provided by Dianthe
Cable organist. Graveside service will be in the Park View Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Theobald, Kenny
Coy, Christopher Kolb, Alec Shenberg, Nathan Delano, Brent Steacy, Roger Moore
and Gary Shenberg. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Fred Tinning, Charles Giovannini,
Freddie Baily, Lee Moots, Harvey Young, Stoney Matteson, HerbSanker, Gary
McCuskey and Tony Hamlin.
