Wilda May Hackney
Wilda May Hackney, 92, of Unionville, MO passed away at the Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville, MO on April, 11, 2013.
Wilda was born in Lemons, MO on October 19, 1920 the daughter of Leo and Bertha (Schnelle) Hackney.
Wilda was a teacher for 32 years. She started in the rural schools of Putnam County, but mostly taught the second grade in St. Louis County schools and one year in Illinois. Wilda loved being on the farm. She enjoyed being outside gardening, but most times you would find her around the barn. Wilda enjoyed working with little animals, especially lambs and calves. She was very fond and always attached to her “bottle babies”.
She was always up to date on the current events by reading the newspapers from cover to cover and watching FOX News. This kept her ready to talk politics at all times. Wilda was always ready for a visitor and enjoyed talking with and teasing her family, friends and neighbors.
Even though Wilda never had any children of her own, she had a special hand in raising Teri Jan and Kelly Mark Deeds and then later her great nephew Kelley Lynn Deeds.
Wilda Hackney is survived by a brother Carroll Hackney and wife Margaret and a sister Helen Deeds all of Unionville, MO. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents, Wilda was preceded in death by her siblings Austin Hackney, Verlan Hackney, Leo Hackney, Jr., Rayma Hackney, Wilma Noland, Mary Holliday, and Georgie Hackney. Wilda was also preceded in death by nephews Wayne Hackney and Gary Noland and nieces Donna Hackney and Doris Jean Hackney.
Wilda was a loving sister, aunt, and great-aunt! Her sweet smile and wonderful laughter will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Wilda Hackney will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 1:30 pm on Sunday, April 14, 2013. Visitation will be Saturday, April 13, 2013, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Lemons Cemetery, south of Unionville, MO.
Memorial for Wilda have been suggested to the Lemons Cemetery and may be entrusted to the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
