Iris Clinkenbeard, 90, of Kirksville, MO, (formerly of Unionville, MO) passed away at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO, on Saturday, April 13, 2013.

Mary Iris Clinkenbeard was born in Putnam County, MO, on December 22, 1922, the daughter of Clyde Hart and Mary Jane (Maulsby) Davis, who preceded her in death. She was reared in Putnam County and attended rural schools in the county. She married Alonzo Clinkenbeard in Unionville on January 29, 1941, and he preceded her in death on July 5, 2007.

Iris and Alonzo lived most of their married life in Putnam County where they farmed and raised a family. Iris worked at the Hickory House Restaurant, the Putnam County Memorial Hospital and at the Locker in Unionville, but most of her life was spent as a loving mother and wife. She liked to raise flowers and vegetables, canning the vegetables to feed her family. She had a good sense of humor and liked to be around people. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Unionville where she worked in the nursery and loved to teach in Vacation Bible School. She also belonged to the Lone Star. She and Alonzo moved to Kirksville in 2006.

Iris is survived by a son, Tom Clinkenbeard and wife Nancy of Winfield, and daughters Rosemary Winkleman of Kirksville, MO, Janice Sue Johnson and her husband Jim, also of Kirksville and Alona Peters and husband Robert of Plainville, IL. Twenty-one grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren survive as well as one great-great grandchild. Iris is also survived by a sister, Helen Golston and her husband Bill, of Unionville, MO, and by many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Peggy Clinkenbeard of Oregon, MO, and a son-in-law, Dwight Snead of Kahoka, MO.

Iris was preceded in death by a son, Ron Clinkenbeard and a daughter, Diane Snead, and by three brothers, Lawrence, Bert and Lester Davis, and by a sister, Vera Pauline Johnson.

Funeral services for Iris Clinkenbeard will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 10:30 am Thursday, April 18, 2013 with visitation on Wednesday, April 17 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be at the Thompson Cemetery east of Unionville, MO.
