Donnie Lawson
Donnie Lawson, 75, of Unionville, MO passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, after a brief illness.
Donnie Gene Lawson was born in Putnam County, MO, on November 26, 1937, the son of Hollis and Marie (Wakefield) Lawson who preceded him in death. He graduated from Seymour High School and then entered the United States Air Force. On December 20, 1958, Donnie married Margaret Heald at the Air Force Base in Warrington, England. She passed away April 12, 2008.
Donnie served 22 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1977. He was a transportation specialist and his duty assignments included Guam, Texas, Kansas, New Jersey, England, and Turkey. Donnie was decorated veteran of the Viet Nam war. He moved to Unionville in 1980 and raised cattle as well as helping Speed Christian on the farm. Donnie was an avid hunter and fisherman and counts many hunting and fishing buddies among his friends. He eventually sold the cattle and did periodic handyman work in the community, being a jack-of-all trades. He liked to work with wood and made book shelves, toy guns and canes for the elderly in the community. Donnie also liked to pan for gold in Colorado and hunt for emeralds in North Carolina. He had a friendly nature and a good sense of humor. His good natured ability to tease was one of his endearing qualities.
Donnie is survived by a son, Ronnie Lawson and wife Susan of Raytown, MO; and three daughters, Karen Couchman of Unionville, MO; Julie Estergren and husband Craig of Janesville, WI, and Wendy White and husband Kevin of Bebee, AR. Twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren also survive as well as a brother, Allen Lawson and wife Phyllis, and a sister, Sue Lawson, all from Des Moines, IA.
Donnie was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Couchman, and three brothers, Larry, Gary and Bill Lawson.
Donnie’s body was cremated at his request and there will be no services.
Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, is in charge of the arrangements.
