Phyllis Bascio

Phyllis Bascio, 74, of Lucerne, MO, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, after a battle with cancer.

Phyllis Darlene Bascio was born near Powersville, MO, on January 8, 1939, the daughter of Don and Valora (Crawford) Stark, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Newtown-Harris High School in 1956 and moved to Kansas City where she first worked with Hallmark Cards. She soon found employment as a bookkeeper with J. B. Armstrong accounting firm and worked there for many years.

Phyllis married Joe Bascio in Kansas City, MO, on January 3, 1976, and he survives at home in Lucerne. Phyllis and Joe owned and operated the Fun Spot on Southwest Blvd. in Kansas City where Phyllis cooked, tended bar and kept the books. They sold the business in 1990 and retired, working part-time jobs with a temp agency in Kansas City. Phyllis and Joe purchased a home in Lucerne in the early 1980’s and divided their time between two homes over the years until moving to Lucerne in 1998.

Phyllis liked to garden, raising flowers and vegetables. She also liked to tend a rock garden and travel. She had a fun personality and was a person with a firm and independent character.

Others who survive Phyllis are a daughter, Theresa Musket and husband Paul of Columbia, MO and a son, David Bascio and wife Rae of Powersville, MO. Six grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive as well as a brother, Gary Stark and his wife Carol of Kansas City, MO, and a sister, Sandra Ross and her husband Jerry of Lucerne, MO. Three sisters-in-law also survive: Annette LaRosa of St. Louis, MO, Janice Stark of Lucerne, and Anita (Stark) Payne, Madisonville, KY.

In addition to her parents Phyllis was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Dale Stark.

Funeral services for Phyllis will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on the day of the service. Pall bearers will be Jeff Stark, Wendell Stark, Allen Stark, Bryon Ross, Mark Perkins, Steve Peterson, and Ben Stark. Interment will be at the Lucerne Cemetery, Lucerne, MO.
