Shirley Ann Baker

Shirley Ann Baker, 72 of Kirksville passed
away Thursday (May 2, 2013) at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.

The daughter of Alfred and Velma (Stewart)
Pope, she was born November 22, 1940 in Kirksville. On June 12, 1960 in
Kirksville she was united in marriage to John Howard (Jack) Baker and he
preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her
brothers, James Powell, Richard Powell and Alfred Pope Jr.

Shirley is survived by her daughter,
Jennifer Burgess and husband Kevin of Gwinn, MI; three grandchildren, Jarryd
Bassett, Justine Bassett and Jevin Burgess; one great grandchild, Jakorey
Bassett; brother, Don Pope and wife Evelyn of Green Castle, MO and sisters,
Leona Sims of Kirksville, Sarah Dyer of Ottumwa, IA and Betty Crosley of
Kirksville.

Shirley worked as a telephone operator for
Southwestern Bell while her husband was in medical school. She attended
Northeast Missouri State University for fine arts and after college taught art
in the Missouri and Michigan prison systems. She lived in the upper peninsula
of Michigan in Ishpeming for 15 years and 7 years in Detroit until moving back
to Kirksville in the late 1980’s. After returning to Missouri in 1989 she
worked at the Walmart Pharmacy in Kirksville.

Shirley loved painting, reading and
spending time with her family, daughter and especially her grandchildren. She
loved wildlife, and the beautiful scenery in upper Michigan. She was loved by
her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Saturday (May 11, 2013) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Gonda
Manning officiating. Entombment will be in Park View Memorial Gardens
Mausoleum.

Visitation with the family will be from
1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the
