Charlie O. Collins, 93, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO, on Saturday, May 25, 2013, after a brief stay.

Charles Omer Collins was born in the West Liberty community of Putnam County on April 25, 1920. He was reared on the farm he still owned at the time of this death. His father passed away when Charlie was 11 years old and he enjoyed visiting with his Grandpa Eli Collins after that. He married Helen Morris in Unionville on December 15, 1940, and she preceded him in death on October 29, 1998.

Charlie and Helen lived and farmed on his home place in the West Liberty community until Helen’s death when Charlie moved to Unionville. They raised cattle, sheep, hogs, chickens and crops. Charlie also helped wire many homes and barns in the community when the Rural Electric came into the area. Charlie drove a school bus for over twenty years and often gave his grandchildren special rides on the bus. He was a 4-H leader in woodworking and electricity. He also worked with the Green Thumb project at the Putnam County School. Charlie liked to drink Pepsi and loved to play checkers, especially with his grandchildren. Charlie was a good neighbor and friend. He liked to visit with folks and enjoyed his family.

Charlie Collins is survived by a son Charles Collins and wife Joy of Lucerne, MO, and a daughter, Linda Engle, of Unionville, MO. Surviving grandchildren are Neina Martin and husband Randy, Beth Walter and husband Bryan, Ryan Engle, Brian Engle and wife Rikki, Bridget Davis and husband James, Brooke Lewis and husband Donnie, , and Alison Collins. Surviving great grandchildren are Tyler and Levi Martin, Brayden and Brody Walter, Donald Lewis, Jorden Engle, and Chase Davis.

In addition to his parents and wife, Charlie was preceded in death by an infant brother and a great granddaughter, Briley Walter.

Funeral services for Charlie Collins will be at the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28, with visitation on Monday, May 27 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Burial will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
