Roger D. Elmore

Roger Dale Elmore, 75 of Kirksville passed away Thursday (July 11, 2013) at his home.

The son of Russell and Bernice (Sykes) Elmore, he was born March 1, 1938 in Gibbs, Missouri. On December 30, 1959 in Brashear, MO he was united in marriage to Zelda Page who survives.

He is also survived by three children, Danny Elmore and wife Karen of Lake St. Louis, MO, Beth Schlorke and husband Fred of Wakarusa, IN and Michael Elmore and wife Suzanne of Kirksville; eight grandchildren, Greg, Megan, Mason, Maren and Mabry Elmore, and Kirsten, Aaron and Hannah Schlorke; one sister, Sherril Hurd of Florida; one step brother, Gary White of Kirksville; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Miller of Milan; one brother-in-law, Gary Page of Georgia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his step mother, Faye Elmore.

Roger served in the United States Navy from November 10, 1955 until his Honorable discharge on February 28, 1959. He served aboard the U.S.S. Essex. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone from 1959 until he retired in 1992.

Roger was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching NASCAR races and working on genealogy. One of Roger’s greatest joys in life was spending time with his dogs. He was a member of the Brashear Community Bible Church.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (July 13, 2013) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Ed O’Conner officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jim Brown, Troy Mihalevich, Don Hunter, Mike Jones, Ryan Jones, Ryan Hale, and David Gudehus. Honorary bearers will be Dick Comstock, Randy Elmore, Laverne Gerhold, Larry Billington, and Charles Corky Franklin.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the
