George Martin Kellison

Martin Kellison, 84, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, MO, on Thursday, July 18, 2013. He had been a resident there for about nine months.

George Martin Kellison was born in Putnam County, MO, on November 24, 1928, the son of Frank and Cora (Brice) Kellison, who preceded him in death. He was reared in the western part of the county and after High School entered the United States Army, being stationed in Austria. Martin learned the refrigeration trade in the army. After his time in the service he married Neta Mayna Noel in Unionville, MO, on December 25, 1963, and she preceded him in death on June 29, 2008.

Martin and Mayna made their home in Wichita, KS, from 1963 until returning to Putnam County in 1969. Martin worked as a carpenter with John Lemen and Franklin Childers for a year before owning and operating his own appliance sales and repair business. Martin also farmed and enjoyed raising cattle. Martin enjoyed bird hunting while in Kansas. He was a very social person who liked to visit with people and enjoyed going to local cafes and coffee shops. He had recently been baptized.

Martin is survived by a son, Greg Kellison and wife Denise of Unionville, MO, and daughter Lynette Peek and husband Mark of Livonia, MO. Grandchildren are Chuck Kellison, Alecia Kellison, Amber Hatfield, Courtney Peek, Nevin Hamilton, and Stacy Hamilton. Great grandchildren are Dayton Hamilton, Dylan Hamilton, Trapper Hatfield, Avery Hamilton, and Easton Hamilton. Mae Bunnell, a dear friend, also survives.

Others who preceded Martin in death are two brothers, Ira Kellison and Charles Kellison.

Funeral services for Martin Kellison were at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Tuesday, July 23 at 10:30 am. Visitation was on Monday, July 22. Pastor Gene Weece conducted the service with recorded musical selections “Daddy’s Hands” and “How Great Thou Art.” Casket bearers were Mark Peek, Nevin Hamilton, Stacy Hamilton, Tyson Hatfield, Steve Pearson, and Dave Williams. Burial was at the Unionville Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Dialysis Clinic of Kirksville and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
