David A. Gerstley
David Andrew Gerstley, 74 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday (July 30, 2013) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The son of Elmer and Anna (Morgan) Gerstley, he was born December 25, 1938 in St. Louis, MO. On July 14, 1958 he was united in marriage to Marva Jo (Jody) Sangster.
Dave is survived by his wife, Jody of 55 years; two daughters, Anita Hardman of Palm Harbor, FL and Tina Gerstley of Kirksville; one grandson, Alex Hardman of Palm Harbor, FL; one sister, Catherine Chaverri of Costa Rica; one brother-in-law, Bill Sangster and wife Marla as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Edward Chaverri and a son-in-law, Tim Hardman.
Dave received his education in the Kirksville public schools, graduating with the class of 1957. He worked at McGraw Edison for a short time, then for Economy Auto Service. He opened Dave’s Auto Service Station & Filling Station in 1961. From 1970 to 1973 he sold Snap On Tools. In May of 1973 he opened Dave’s Auto Service and operated it until March 2011 when he retired. He was well known for his specialty of working on foreign cars.
In later years he was known for his beautiful woodworking & showing at craft shows. Dave loved camping when his health allowed. He enjoyed spending time with friends and will be remembered for the love of his family and always helping others. He had a tremendous love of all the dogs he had over the years.
He was a past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and a member of Senior Circle.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (August 3, 2013) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the
Davis-Playle-Huson-Rimer Funeral Home
