Michael L. Lockhart, 63 of Kirksville passed away Monday (August 19, 2013) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.

The son of Clarence Leroy and Lorraine (Campbell) Lockhart, he was born July 13, 1950 in Ellsworth, Kansas. On May 23, 1972 in Lawrence, Kansas he was united in marriage to Carol Allison.

Michael is survived by his wife, Carol; one son, Patrick Michael Lockhart of Kirksville; one daughter, Megan Rose Lockhart of Washington D.C.; one brother, Jerry Lockhart of Ellsworth, KS; two sisters, Cheryl Anderson of Beloit, KS and Pam Lockhart; a sister-in-law, Dale Hartley and husband Evan of Emporia, KS and a brother-in-law, Daniel Joseph Allison of Wichita, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Michael attended school in Sylvan Grove, Kansas where he graduated high school with the class of 1968. He received his PhD from the University of Kansas in 1972. He did post doctorial work at Pennsylvania State University and also at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He taught at Truman State University from 1982 until 2011.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (August 24, 2013) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Northcutt officiating. Burial will follow the service in Park View Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
