John E. Witte III

John Edwin Witte III, age 79 passed away Friday, September 6, 2013, at the Arbors in Kirksville.

The son of John E. and Pauline E. (Riley) Witte III, John was born December 3, 1933 in Edina, MO. On August 7, 1965 he was united in marriage to Patricia K. Moran who preceded him in death in 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Edwin Witte and three sisters, Polly, Cecilia and Evelyn.

John is survived by three sons, Stephen John Witte of Columbia, MO, Kevin Michael Witte of Columbia, MO and Sean Patrick Witte of Kirksville.

John was reared in Knox County, MO where he attended the Knox County schools and graduated from the Know County High School. He attended the University of Missouri where he graduated with a BS degree in Agricultural Economics. He served in the United States Army in Germany and operated a tug boat. After his service career he returned to Knox County and farmed the family farm. When he retired, he moved to Kirksville. In Kirksville he did a lot of volunteering. He was a member of the Greensburg Lodge #44 A.F&A.M and all of the Masonic bodies.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Musical selections will be “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening, September 11, 2013, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233

Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
