Thelma Baldock, 95, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, MO, on Friday, September 6, 2013.
Thelma Lucille (Bacus) Baldock was born in Connelsville, MO, on July 19, 1918, the daughter of Claud and Goldie (Dooley) Bacus, who preceded her in death. The family moved to Appanoose County, IA, soon after she was born where she spent her childhood years. They later moved to Unionville, MO.
Thelma married Robert Baldock in Unionville, MO, on December 24, 1933, and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1995. Thelma and Robert lived in various states after they were married, locating where they could find work. Among other states, they lived in California, Minnesota, and Iowa. They lived in Des Moines for twenty years where Robert worked as a plumber. Thelma was primarily a homemaker, caring for the home and seven children: Janet, Jerry, Mary, Bob, Peg, Dennis, and Dan. Thelma and Robert moved to Beaconsfield, IA, after Robert’s retirement in the early seventies and lived there before returning to Unionville in 1982.
Home was the center of Thelma’s world and she loved her family. She liked the quiet joy of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thelma also enjoyed playing cards (especially Pitch) and doing crossword puzzles. She tended a large garden when they lived in Beaconsfield.
Thelma Baldock is survived by her seven children: Janet Kieliger of Knoxville, IA; Jerry Baldock and wife Alma of Pleasantville, IA; Mary Moore and husband Richard of Toledo, IA; Bob Baldock and wife Joyce of Unionville, MO; Peg Riley and husband Don of Des Moines, IA; Dennis Baldock and wife Linda of Altus, OK; and Dan Baldock and wife Karen of Nixa, MO. Twenty-two grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren also survive.
Others who preceded Thelma in death are a brother, Junior Bacus; two sisters, Crystal George and Edna Dodge; a son-in-law, Sonny Kieliger; and a great grandson, Thomas Hopper.
Thelma requested that her body be cremated. A memorial service will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 2:00 on Saturday, September 14, 2013, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials for Thelma are suggested in lieu of flowers to the American Diabetes Association and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
