Dorothy E. Rummerfield, 85 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday (October 2, 2013) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center surrounded by her family.

The daughter of Loyal Bruce and Maude Emiline (Vertrees) Hawkins, she was born July 19, 1928 in South Gifford, MO. On December 4, 1947 in Macon, MO she was united in marriage to Donald Lee Rummerfield and he preceded her in death on September 14, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, David L. Siglin; one brother, Paul Hawkins and one sister, Anna Mae Bergman.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Christine Siglin of Kirksville and Carol Yowell and husband Jimmy of Chillicothe, MO; two grandchildren, Lisa Coy and husband Justin of LaPlata, MO and Delaine Yowell of St. Louis, MO; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Claire Coy; one brother, John Hawkins and wife Hazelle of Goldsberry, MO; one sister, Nancy Matlick and husband Maurice of Fredonia, KS; and special friend, John A. Cavett of Kirksville.

Dorothy was raised in Goldsberry and graduated from the Ethel High School. She worked as a nurse and was proud of the fact she was one of the first L.P.N.’s in Adair County. For 35 years she and Donald ran an Antique Shop in LaPlata, MO.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, flowers and eating out. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (October 4, 2013) at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville with Reverend Charles Jackson officiating.

Visitation will be Friday until the time of the service.
