James W. Barnes

James Barnes 78, of Kirksville, passed away Thursday (October 31, 2013) in Boone Hospital, Columbia, MO.

The son of Earl Newton and Hannah Eldred (West) Barnes, he was born February 6, 1935 in Queen City, MO. On September 1, 1962, in Eldon, MO he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Branson, who survives. He is also survived by his children, a son, David Allen Barnes and wife Kelly of Waterloo, IL, and a daughter, Debbie Harris and husband John of Kirksville, six grandchildren, Logan Barnes, Leigh Barnes, Isabella Barnes, Jessica Harris, Jennifer Harris, and Rachel Harris, two sisters, Anna Mae Gashwiler and husband Francis of Novinger, MO and Bonnie Partin of Nehawka, NE; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Kenneth Barnes and Junior Barnes.

James grew up in Queen City and attended the Queen City Public School graduating with the class of 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957 when he was honorably discharged.

He worked at Kewanee in Kirksville for fifteen years and retired from Truman State University after sixteen years there.

James was member of the United Pentecostal Church in Kirksville. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also liked car races and reading. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday (November 2, 2013) at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor David Brown officiating. Burial with Military rites will be in the Queen City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Partin, John Harris, Bill Gashwiler, Jay Gashwiler, Adam Gashwiler, and Jordan Miller.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday (November 2, 2013) at the
