Allan Lee Hartje, 61 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday (November 5, 2013) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

The son of George N. Hartje Sr. and Virginia Ida (Hohlt) Hartje, he was born February 3, 1952 in St. Louis, MO. At an early age Allan moved to Kirksville, where he attended school and graduated from Kirksville High School in 1970. He worked for Kewanee in Kirksville until moving to Austin, TX, where he worked construction for several years. Eventually he returned to Kirksville, working part time both as a handyman and for Kirksville Heights apartments.

He enjoyed deer hunting, spending time with his family, and he loved to play golf.

Allan is survived by his sister, Edna Hartje of Kansas City, MO; his two brothers, George N. “Nick” Hartje Jr. of Austin, TX and David Hartje and wife Joni of Burlington, IA; his step mother, Jan Hartje of Kirksville; nine nieces and nephews, several great nieces, great nephews and cousins; three step brothers and two step sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (November 9, 2013) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Hartje, Andrew Hartje, Tracy Platz, Cory Platz, James Edwards and Larry Platz.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the

As Allan’s favorite color was yellow, the family asks that you wear something yellow to the service in his honor. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or charity of the donor’s choice.
