Twyla Bates, 90, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 16, 2013.
Twyla Grace (Little) Bates was born in Clio, IA, on August 26, 1923, the daughter of Austin and Carrie (Anderson) Little who preceded her in death. She attended Lucerne schools and graduated from Lucerne High School in 1941. She married Emmett Bates on December 27, 1942, and he preceded her in death on August 16, 1973.
Twyla lived most of her adult life in Powersville and Unionville, MO, where she was a member of the Powersville Christian Church. She was active in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also helped with 4-H. Twyla later engaged in home remodeling, specializing in painting and wall papering. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Centerville, IA. Twyla had a friendly and outgoing personality and she seldom met a stranger.
Twyla is survived by a daughter, Rose Roquet and husband Gail of Topeka, KA, and three sons, Merle Bates and wife Barb of Chatsworth, IL; Jack Bates of Thayer, MO; and Jerry Bates of Jacksonville, AR. Surviving grandchildren are Michelle Riddle and companion Rodney Rose, Melodie Brunson and husband Jay, Barry Bates, Brian Bates, Elizabeth Keeton and husband Shon, Jennifer Toland, Patricia Okanowski and husband Mark, Jessica Moore and husband Chris, Jami Bates, Kristopher Bates, and Jackson Bates. Her great grandchildren are Tim, Amanda, Josh, Jake, Kyle, Jeromy, Matt, Alexandria, Breanna, Garrett, Ryan, Audrey, Tyler, Eric, Hunter, Trent, Korrine, and Annabelle. Great-Great grandchildren are Shayden, Chloee, Blaine, Kendall Rose, Karlee, Kane, and Egan. The family offers a special thank-you to her niece, Kim Cunningham, for her faithful care giving and love the last nine months.
Others who preceded Twyla in death were George Hymes, a companion of 20 years, who died June 25, 1998, and a grandson, Michael Riddle, who passed away February 4, 2013.
Funeral services for Twyla Bates will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Powersville Cemetery in Powersville, MO.
