Mary Kathleen “Kay” Chandler
Mary Kathleen Chandler, 87 of Kirksville
passed away Monday (November 18, 2013) at Highland Crest in Kirksville.
The daughter of August and Katherine (Malia)
Kramer, she was born August 8, 1926 in Hannibal, MO. On June 1, 1946 in
Hannibal she was united in marriage to William Glenn Chandler.
Kay is survived by two sons, Gary Ace
Chandler (Nancy) of Springfield, MO and Stephen Lee Chandler (Becky) of
Springfield, MO; two daughters, Kathy Ann Erwin (David) of Brashear, MO and
Gail Lynn Maggart of St. Peters, MO; eight grandchildren, Teresa Harris (Craig)
of Kirksville, Amanda Gray (Travis) of Brashear, MO, Ashlee Erwin (Jeff Neu) of
St. Louis, MO, Zachary Erwin (Jessica) of Brashear, MO, Josh Maggart (Jessica)
of Kansas City, MO, Cassie Vogelpohl (Matt) of St. Peters, MO, Marcus Chandler
of St. Louis, MO and Lyndsey Chandler of Tulsa, OK; eight great grandchildren,
Abby & Sophia Harris of Kirksville, Kennedy & Gage Gray of Brashear,
Audrey & Adrienne Erwin of Brashear, Libby Vogelpohl of St. Peters, MO and
Asher Maggart of Kansas City, MO; three step grandchildren, Nicholas Clark of
Kansas City, MO, Suzanne Elmore (Michael) of Kirksville and Stephanie Jones
(Michael) of Kirksville; nine step great grandchildren, Jacee Bailey of
Seymour, MO, Mason, Maren & Mabry Elmore of Kirksville, Shane & Shafer
Jones of Kirksville, Marissa Vogelpohl of St. Peters, MO, Bowen Preddy of
Cassville, MO and Cooper Lawson of Springfield, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
her husband on July 5, 1979; a son, Christopher Todd Chandler; a son-in-law,
Clifford E. Maggart; one sister, Nathaline Simpkins and one brother, Lawrence
Bennett.
Kay grew up in Hannibal and later moved to
Kirksville. She was a homemaker while raising her children, then worked at Gibson’s
Discount with later became Pamida and was the owner of Glenn’s Shoe’s. She has
been a resident of Highland Crest for the past year and a half.
Kay was best known by her family and friends
and “Granny Kay”. She was a past member of the American Business Women’s
Association and enjoyed watching TV, reading, traveling and spending time with
her kids and grandkids.
Visitation with the family will be from
6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m.
Thursday (November 21, 2013) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with
Craig Harris speaking on behalf of the family. Burial will be in Maple Hills
Cemetery in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Josh
Maggart, Marcus Chandler, Zachary Erwin, Cassie Vogelpohl, Amanda Gray, Ashlee
Erwin, and Lyndsey Chandler.
Memorials are suggested to the American
Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
