Doris L. Dixon, 87, of Unionville, MO passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital on November 22, 2013.


Doris was born in the Hartford area of Putnam County on May 15, 1926 to Herbert and Nora (Lynch) Morrow. Following High School, Doris worked for Dr. Judd as a nurse’s aid while attending North East MO State Teachers College in Kirksville. After attaining her teaching degree she taught for 36 years starting in rural schools until the consolidation then moved to the Unionville Elementary.

In August of 1948 Doris married Odell Bud Dixon. They later divorced and she married Hal Kent in April of 1957. Hal passed away in 1984 and Doris remarried Bud in 1986. Doris was a member of the Unionville First Baptist Church actively serving in her “Joy Fellowship Class.” Doris also served on the Putnam County Care Center board. Above all, Doris enjoyed being a mother and grandmother.

Doris Dixon is survived by two sons, Gary Dixon and wife Millie of Tehachapi, CA, Ronnie Dixon of Livonia, MO, and a daughter, Judy and husband Johnny Williams of Unionville, MO. Her surviving siblings are brothers, Bob Morrow and wife Carol, James Morrow and wife Melinda, and sister, Twyla (Jim) Perkins. Doris Dixon’s grandchildren include Shannah Hunt and husband Rich and Shelby Williams all of Newton, IA. Doris’s great grandchildren are Christian Simmons, Abbey Hunt, Claire Hunt, and Annabelle Hunt.

In addition to her parents and spouses, Doris was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda and a brother, Larry Morrow. She was also preceded by a great nephew, Dylan Perkins.

Doris L. Dixon’s funeral service was Monday, November 25, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Unionville First Baptist Church with her visitation beginning at 1:00 pm. Pastor Mark Dye officiated and her casket bearers included Johnny Williams, Christian Simmons, Rick Stottlemyre, Rich Hunt, David Perkins, and Rod Stottlemyre. Mrs. Dixon’s honorary casket bearers were Ronnie Brown, Lee Tipton, and Curtis Sebalt.

Memorials for Doris are suggested to the Unionville First Baptist Church and may be entrusted with the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
