Neva L. Sleeth
Neva Lee Sleeth, 96 of Brashear passed away Thursday (January 9, 2014) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
The daughter of Lee and Emma (Conkle) Coy, she was born September 14, 1917 in Hurdland, MO. On December 17, 1938 in Queen City, MO she was united in marriage to Clarence Pearl Sleeth and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Rapheal and Oletha Milstead.
Neva is survived by three nieces, Sandra Osborn and husband Lonnie of Brashear, Donna Brewer of St. Petersburg, FL and Toni Milstead of Columbia, MO; one nephew, Monte Milstead and wife Jean of Lawrence, KS; seven great nieces and nephews and several great great and great great great nieces and nephews.
Neva attended rural school in Knox County and graduated from Brashear High School in 1937. She received her B.S. in Education in 1951 and her master’s degree in Elementary Administration in 1962. She taught in rural schools in Knox, Macon and Adair counties for 10 years and then taught at the Brashear schools from 1952 to 1977 when she retired.
She was a member of the Brashear United Methodist Church, National Retired Teachers Association and the RSVP. She loved teaching, sewing and cats. She will be greatly missed by family, friends and many former students.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (January 11, 2014) at Brashear Cemetery with Pastor Nancy Douglas officiating.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
