Debra Duane Pickering

Debbie Pickering, 48, of Powersville, MO, passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, after a three year battle with PPND, a form of Parkinson’s disease.

Debra Duane (Gill) Pickering was born in Unionville, MO, on September 15, 1965, the daughter of Owen Duane and Kathryn (Thompson) Gill. She was reared in Putnam County and graduated from Putnam County High School in 1983. She then graduated with an Associate of Arts degree from North Central Community College in Trenton. Debbie married Trevor Pickering in Unionville, MO, on December 28, 1985, and he survives at home. Also surviving is a son, Devon Pickering and his fiancée Chelsea Paul, of Unionville, MO, her father Duane Gill, of Powersville, MO, and Debbie’s in-laws, Jack and Phyllis Pickering of Unionville, MO.

Debbie and Trevor started married life in New Mexico when Trevor was in the service. They then returned to Putnam County where they lived a number of years in Lucerne before building a new house near her family in 2004. Debbie worked as a teacher’s aide at Newtown-Harris Schools before beginning work at Putnam County State Bank in 2004. Illness caused her to leave that position in 2011.

Debbie liked all kinds of animals, especially her cats and the livestock on the farm. She enjoyed traveling and seeing the natural beauty of the mountains as well as national monuments like Mount Rushmore. She worked with 4-H, was a member of the Wildlife Federation, and served on the Lucerne Town Board. Debbie had a bubbly and friendly personality and was kind to all who knew her.

Debbie was preceded in death by her mother in 1997.

Debbie’s wishes were to be cremated and private family services will be held at a later date.
