Charles William Shrake

Charles Shrake, 72, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital on Sunday, January 26, 2014, from injuries sustained in a pedestrian/motor vehicle accident earlier that evening.


Charles William Shrake was born near Graysville, MO, on April 3, 1941, the son of Charlie and Edith (Robbins) Shrake, who preceded him in death.

He attended a rural school in Putnam County before graduating from Unionville High School in 1959. Charlie worked at the Box Factory in Centerville, IA, and then began working for the city of Unionville, MO, in 1967 until his retirement in 2002. He was an operator at the power plant. Charlie also worked for Stan and Dorothy Casady at their grocery store and as a custodian at First Baptist Church in Unionville.

On February 17, 1965 Charles married Bonnie Thompson in Unionville, MO, and they later divorced.


Charlie was an active member at First Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School and was faithful in his attendance, often walking several blocks to services. He also liked to play the guitar. Charlie was a friendly and outgoing person who liked to visit. He always had a positive outlook and was very active, even in later years when his health was not as good. He was loyal and dependable and had a good sense of humor.


Charles is survived by two daughters Vicky Gilliam and husband Terry of Omaha, NE, and Katrina Andrews and companion James Brockus of Centerville, IA. Surviving grandchildren are Natassia Gilliam, Stephanie Gilliam, Shelby Clark, Dani Neeson, Maria Neeson, Amanda Andrews, and Rylee Andrews. His great granddaughter is Elizabeth Gilliam-Carlson.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was also preceded in death by an infant sister.

Memorial services for Charles will be at the First Baptist Church in Unionville, MO, at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 30, 2014. There will be on visitation. Charles’ body was laid to rest at the Rose Cemetery on Tuesday, January 28, 2014.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Unionville and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
