Donald L. Thompson, 71, of Brashear, MO passed away Thursday, February 06, 2014 at his home.
The son of Perley and Letha (Pinson) Thompson, Donald was born March 9, 1942 in Edina, MO. On October 14, 1961 in Edina, MO he was united in marriage to Betty “Karen” Branham.
Donald is survived by two sons, James Thompson and wife, Tonja, of Stella, NC and Roger Thompson and wife, Dana, of Gibbs, MO; two daughters, Tracy Howes and husband, Alan, of Brashear, MO and Sara Williams and husband, Joe, of Greentop, MO; eleven grandchildren, Jenn Minkler, Koty Hayden, Shane Howes, Tyler Thompson, Tony Thompson and wife, Jennifer, Meredith Kesler and husband, Cody, Olivia and Allison Thompson, Dakota, Kylie and Garrett Williams; three great-grandchildren, Tenlee Shaw, Brynn Vogel and Haley Thompson; two brothers, Lawrence “Toby” Thompson and wife, Darla, of Gladstone, IL and Davie Thompson of Edina, MO; two sisters, Louise “Sissy” Moots of Hurdland, MO and Mary Jean Stanton and husband, Larry, of Mt. Vernon, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Karen on February 10, 2013; and one great- grandchild, Colten Ray Thompson.
Donald was born and raised in and around Edina, MO. He graduated from Edina High School in 1960. While in high school he worked for his uncles, LeRoy and Bob Pinson, driving a truck and working on the farm. He later drove a truck for Kelly’s Rock Quarry before going to work for Mark Twain Rural Telephone Company in 1966. He spent his early years at Mark Twain working on the construction crew, eventually moving on to where he was the serviceman for the Hurdland, Brashear, and Greentop exchanges. In his 37 years, he took great pride in servicing the customers of Mark Twain until he retired in 2004. Donald also served many years on the town board for the city of Brashear.
He was a member of the Brashear United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids. Donald loved taking care of his yard and visiting with friends and family, neighbors, and people of the community. He was well known in the area and will be missed by many.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday (February 10, 2014) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Broach officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jim Thompson, Roger Thompson, Koty Hayden, Kody Kite, Gary Clark and Daniel Moots. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Buchanan, Larry Sykes, Tyler Thompson, Tony Thompson, Dakota Williams, Shane Howes, Lucas Stanton, Chad Clair, Larry Stanton, Billie Hettinger, Toby Thompson, Davie Thompson, and the past and present employees of Mark Twain Rural Telephone Co.
