Lorena M. Darnel

Lorena M. Darnel, 89 of Kirksville passed away peacefully on Sunday (February 23, 2014) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

Lorena is the daughter of Roy L. and Myrtle (Darnell) Turner, she was born October 3, 1924 in Kirksville, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Robert H. (Buggar) Darnel on February 14, 1942 in Macon, Missouri and was blessed with three children: Larry Robert, Jimmy Edward and Vickie Sue.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy L. and Myrtle; her husband, Robert (Buggar); one son, Larry; six brothers and sister, Leroy, Charles, Tommy, Donnie, Chester Dean and Levena Gregory; in-laws, Carol Turner, Loretta Turner, Bonnie Turner, Olin and Edie Darnel, Glen and Melba Darnel, Hollis Darnel, Lela Johnson, Howard and Sarah Darnel.

Lorena is survived by her children, Jimmy (Vickie) Darnel of Brashear, MO and Vickie (Robert) Gillum of Kirksville; grandchildren, Renee (Jim) Reeves, Tracy (John) Schmitz, Josh (Tiffany) Darnel, Callie (Jeff) May, Sara Gillum and Ryan Mauzy, Shelly (Scott) Long, Teresa (Clint) Bissey; 11 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Linda Darnel; brothers and sisters, Earl (Phyllis) Turner, Betty (Don) Beerbower, Kathryn (Pearlie) Vincent, Roy L. (Carolyn) Turner, and Clifford (Donnita) Turner; a very special sister-in-law, Odelia Turner; and in-laws, Russell (Henrietta) Darnel, Eldon Darnel, and Addie Mae Darnel and several nieces and nephews.

Lorena raised her family on a farm east of Brashear prior to moving to Kirksville. She worked over 22 years at the International and Floresheim Shoe Companies. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and visiting with friends and relatives. Her happiest times were being with her family, playing with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and listening to her family play music.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (February 27, 2014) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Darrell Draper officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
