Mary Jean Homer

Mary Jean Homer, 76 passed away early Friday morning, March 7, 2014, at her home in Kirksville, Missouri.

The daughter of Lewis and Bernita (Schissler) Homer she was born June 10, 1937 in Indian Point, Illinois. On January 21, 1957 she was united in marriage to James Heath and to this union two children were born. In 1983 she was married to LaVern D. Rice.

She is survived by her son James Michael (Mike) Heath of Salem, Oregon; her daughter LaNita Heath of Kirksville a step-daughter Ronita Rice; seven grandchildren, Sara Heath, Shaun Heath, Dava Heath, Jonathan Heath, Ryan Heath, Austin Heath and Stephene Howard, step-granddaughter Tami Rice; a great grandchild, Aramay Heath and two step-great grandchildren. Mary Jean is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Rose Whitehurst and husband Ira of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Sharon Colton Tuttle of Kirksville; two brothers, Ronald Homer and wife JoAnn of Greentop and Craig Homer and wife Wanda of Queen City; one Aunt Karen Homer of Glenwood and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary Jean attended the Avon, Illinois Elementary School and High School, graduating with the class of 1955.

In 1960 she moved to Queen City and worked at McGrews in Kirksville for five years. She and her husband also had a plumbing business in Queen City from 1962 to 1967. In 1967 she moved to Kirksville where she worked for Carp’s, Mohr Value, and Wal-Mart until retiring in the early 1980”s.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose Club in Kirksville.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday (March 9, 2014) at the Queen City Cemetery with Pastor Karen Homer officiating.
Pallbearers will be Justin Hatfield, Justin Harris, Jonathan Heath, R.D. Homer, Ron Frye, and Tracy Homer.

Visitation will be from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. in the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, Missouri.
