Bruce Alan Coggins, age 55, passed away peacefully at his home in Kirksville on Saturday, March 8 ^th .

Born on May 28 ^th , 1958 in Riverside, CA, he is survived by his wife, Janet and his two children, Elizabeth and Nicholas, his parents, Charles & Irene Coggins of Redlands, CA and brother, Roger and wife Carla of Redlands, CA.

Bruce married his wife, Janet, on August 14, 1982. He was the recipient of a bi-lateral double lung transplant in March of 1993, at the UC San Diego Medical Center. He received his BA, MA and then Ph.D in Economics from the University of California in Riverside in 1995. He took a job as an Economics professor at Truman State University in 1998 and taught until October of 2013, when his failing health forced him to retire.

Bruce enjoyed keeping up with current events and politics, reading biographies of the Presidents of the United States, listening to classical music, making movies with his son, Nicholas and discussing life’s important issues with his daughter, Elizabeth.

An encouraging and devoted husband to his wife, he was also an excellent father to his children. He will be remembered, by all who knew him, for his sarcastic wit and his compassionate heart.

Visitation will be Friday (March 14, 2014) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2000 E. Normal, in Kirksville. Funeral service will be Saturday (March 15, 2014) at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are being handled by the
