"Delores" Watson, 80, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO, on Saturday, March 8, 2014, after a stay of about two weeks.
Lucy "Delores" Maxine (Berndt) Watson was born in rural Mercer, MO, on November 19, 1933, the daughter of Paul and Mary Mabelle (Berndt) Little, who preceded her in death. She was reared in Mercer County, MO, and she married Robert Watson in Centerville, IA, on March 27, 1959. He survives at home in Unionville.
Delores and Robert moved to Corydon, IA, after their wedding and lived and worked on a farm for several years. They then moved to Missouri and finally to Unionville, MO, where they have lived for over 16 years. Delores spent most of her life as a homemaker and farmer’s wife. She did work for three years as an in-home caregiver.
Delores loved to garden, raising flowers and all kinds of vegetables. She canned the vegetables and used them in her cooking. She loved to cook and especially to prepare special dishes for her grandkids, which she adored. She was well known in the family for her homemade ice cream, macaroni and cheese, and homemade tomato soup. Delores helped with 4-H and belonged to a quilting club in her younger years. She was a member of West Liberty Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, Delores is survived by a step-son, Dennis Watson and wife Lea of Aubrey, TX, sons Thomas Watson and wife Candy of Millerton, IA, Donald Watson and companion Tammy Cawley of Unionville, MO, and Tim Watson and wife Kim of Brashear, MO; and a daughter, Trudy Wade and husband Brent of Kansas City, MO. Twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive as well as a step-brother, Danny Berndt of Mercer, MO, and two sisters, Coral Little of Wyoming, and Betty Torrey of Lineville, IA.
Funeral services for Delores Watson will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2014, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Newtown Cemetery, Newtown, MO.
