Joyce A. Gillespie

Joyce Gillespie 67, of Worthington, MO passed away Friday night, March 21, 2014, in Manor Care in Kirksville.

The daughter of George and Marion (Burlingame) Oertel, she was born August 7, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa. She grew up in Davenport and attended school there, graduating from the Davenport High School.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Vernon Gillespie; two brothers, George Oertel Jr. and Terry Oertel; four sisters, Sue Cripe, Lois Basquez, Lonnie Oertel, and Laura Gladfelter and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Joyce worked for the Davenport Bank in Davenport, Iowa for several years and also helped to raise her younger brother and sister. Joyce and Vernon moved to Worthington, Missouri in 1974, where she continued to live until about two years ago when it was necessary for her to go to the nursing home.

She was a member of the Worthington Garden Club for many years. She liked to cook, attend Tractor Pulls, and Stock Car races. She loved to shop.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday (March 27, 2014) in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Home Cemetery west of Worthington, MO.

Pallbearers will be Gary Currier, Gilbert Gillespie, Bobby Gillespie, Brian Gillespie, George Oertel, and Terry Oertel.

Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the
