Wayne Earl Murphy
Wayne Earl Murphy, 72, of Powersville, MO passed away at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, IA on March 29, 2014.
Wayne Murphy was born on April 19, 1941, the son of James and Ruby (Riddle) Murphy. Wayne graduated from the Unionville High School in 1959 and later married Wilma Garten on March 5, 1966. Fifteen days following his wedding, Wayne started his service for the US Army. Wayne served oversees in Taiwan then later returned to live in the state of Washington with Wilma. Once they decided to start a family, the Murphy’s returned to the family farm in Missouri where their four children were born. Along with Wayne’s Army buddies, he attended classes in Centerville on the GI Bill where Wayne developed life long friendships and the fondest of memories. Wayne served on the FSA board and liked to be involved in local community activities. In addition to the family he loved, Wayne loved his cows and calves, helping his neighbors, and enjoyed his daily coffee at the famous, west end, Powersville Coffee Shop.
Wayne is survived by his four children: Connie Davis and husband Bobby of Corydon, IA; Craig Murphy and wife Shelly, Curt Murphy, and Cindy Murphy, all of Powersville, MO. Wayne’s grandchildren are Levi Davis, Zachary Davis, Bryce Murphy, and Kelsey Murphy. Wayne is survived by sisters, Glenda Roy of Lee Summit, MO and Rogene Torrey and husband Bert of Liberty, MO. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Maxine Kincaid and a brother-in-law, Howard Garten and wife Rochelle. Wayne’s surviving nieces are Lisa, Lynnette, LeighAnn, Denise, Diane, Roberta, and LuAnne and his nephews are Mike, Randy, Bruce, Brian, and George.
In addition to his wife and parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Roger Kincaid.
Wayne Murphy’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 11:00am at the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO. Wayne’s visitation will be Wednesday evening, April 2, between the hours of 6-8:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Powersville Cemetery.
Memorials for Wayne have been suggested to the Somerset Hall or the Sewal Community Center and may be entrusted to the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
