Paul Alonzo Mitchell


Paul Alonzo Mitchell, 88; a resident of the Missouri Veteran Home in Cameron, MO, passed away April 6, 2014. He had made his home in Rayville, MO since 1955.


He was born March 28, 1926, the son of Pete and Dixie (Six) Mitchell.  He married Helen Louise Richardson in 1952, she preceded him in death in 1963.  To this union two children were born, son, Paul W. Mitchell of Richmond, MO and daughter, Christine Ann who also preceded him in death. He was then united in marriage in 1969 to Bettie Louise Norris of Rayville, MO, who survives at the home.


Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife; his daughter; brothers, Royer and Virgil Mitchell; sister, Edna and Harold Rogers and Mary and Willard Cusick.


Paul is survived by his son, Paul W. Mitchell of Richmond; sisters-in-laws, Dora Jane King Cates, Mary Mitchell; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Junior Hackett, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Norris of Richmond, MO and Jeffery Wayne Norris of Excelsior Springs, MO; several nieces and nephews from the Mitchell, Richardson, and Norris families.


Paul was raised and attended school in the Hurdland, MO. area.  He was a member of the Local 663 Heavy Construction. He was on the Rayville city council and served as Rayville mayor. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, family and friends in the Hurdland and Baring area. He was of the Christian faith.


Funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Davis-Playle-Rimer Chapel with Reverend Mark Bickford officiating. Musical selections “How Great Thou Art” and “ Crying in the Chapel.” Burial in the IOOF Cemetery in Hurdland, MO. Visitation is one hour before service.


Pallbearers are Terry Hunolt, Robert Delaney, Kurt Norris, David Mitchell, Dale Matteson and Charles Norris.  Honorary bearers will be Junior Hackett, Carey Hiatt, John Flynn, Robert Hendricks, Jim Kiley, Carl Mitchell, Roger Mitchell, Todd Johnson and Vic Mitchell.
