Sandy Gadberry

Sandy Gadberry, 64, of Unionville, MO, passed away suddenly at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, MO, on Sunday, May 4, 2014.

Sandra Sue Gadberry was born in Lucerne, MO, on May 18, 1949, the daughter of Rufus Fredrick and Della (Cornmesser) Bowman, who preceded her in death. Sandy married Frankie Gadberry in Powersville, MO, on August 16, 1964, and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1996. Sandy and Frankie moved to Moline, IL, shortly after their marriage where their son Ronnie Lee and daughter Rhonda Sue were born. Deciding city life was not for them, they returned to Putnam County.

Sandy worked as assistant city clerk at the Unionville city hall until being appointed city clerk. After the birth of Randy, Sandy worked in various restaurants until working for Missouri Mining. She suffered an injury there and became disabled.

Sandy had an avid interest and passion for the history of Putnam County and in genealogy. This led her to become actively involved at the Putnam County Historical Museum and president of the Putnam County Historical Society. She became one of the driving forces behind the preservation and recording of history in the county, finally resulting in publishing a two-volume history in 2013. Her contributions to preserving the story of Putnam County will live on for many generations to come.

Sandy is survived by her two sons, Ronnie Gadberry of Perryville, MO, and Randy Gadberry and wife Sherry of Arnold, MO; and daughter Rhonda Gadberry of Unionville, MO. Her surviving grandchildren are Andrea Donnelly, Cody Jones, Frank Jones, Austin Gadberry, Jasmin Gadberry, Tanner Gadberry, and Jewelia Leuckel. Sandy’s great grandchildren are Madison Hagen, Jacob Donnelly, Olivia Donnelly, Devon Keller, and Kymber Keller. Sandy is also survived by five sisters: Juanita Hall and husband Melvin of Unionville, MO; Marion Vasher and husband Matt of Booneau, South Carolina; Ruth Dunkin of state of Iowa; Marjorie Tipton of Crown Point, IN; and Anna Brown of Butler, MO.
Sandy was preceded in death by two brothers, James Bowman, and Charlie Bowman.
