Jo Ann McCormack
Barbara “Jo Ann” McCormack, 83, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the University Of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, after a month long stay in the hospital.
Jo Ann McCormack was born in Pollock, MO, on March 25, 1931, the daughter of Frank DeCotas and Constance Arvilla (McEntire) Livingston, who preceded her in death. She was reared in the Pollock area and graduated from Milan High School in 1949. She married Harold “Dean” McCormack in Pollock, MO, on June 4, 1949, and he survives in Unionville.
Jo Ann and Dean started married life in Kansas City, MO, both working separate jobs. Later they moved to Pollock, MO, to Iowa, and then back to Lemons, MO. Dean purchased a milk route in 1959 and Jo Ann worked along side, picking up and making deliveries and keeping the books. They became the owners and operators of McCormack’s MFA service station in 1963 and built a new facility in 1970. Jo Ann worked as the bookkeeper in this business. The business was sold to their son Mike in 1995, but Jo Ann continued to do the books until she retired in 2005. Jo Ann and Dean lived in Lemons until 1980 when they moved to Unionville.
Jo Ann was an active member of the First Christian Church in Unionville and was the secretary/treasurer of her Sunday School class. She played the piano and sang in the choir in her younger years. Jo Ann helped with Girl Scouts and 4-H when the children were younger. She liked to quilt, sew and crochet and was an avid reader of Christian novels. She also liked to cook and the family especially loved her homemade hot rolls.
In addition to her husband, Jo Ann is survived by three sons, Larry McCormack and wife Joyce of Unionville, MO; Randy McCormack and wife Deborah of Punta Gorda, FL; Mike McCormack and wife Tina of Unionville, MO; and one daughter, Dee Ann Fuller and husband Garry of Jefferson City, MO. Surviving grandchildren are Nathan McCormack, Chris McCormack, Matt McCormack, Jenny DeBerry, Joshua McCormack, Megan McCormack, Shawn McCormack, Shayla Spring, James Fuller, Shelby Fuller, and Hayden Fuller. Twelve great grandchildren also survive as well as two sisters, Janice Sharp of Kearney, MO, and Linda Fleshman and her husband Wendell of Milan, MO. Several nieces and nephews also survive Jo Ann.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna V. Stanley and Francis A. Livingston, who died in infancy.
Funeral services for Jo Ann McCormack will be conducted at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 2:30 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Lemons Cemetery.
