Clinton Smith, 66, of the Jimtown Community passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 17, 2014, at his home after bravely fighting cancer for the past three years.

Clint was born in Putnam County on February 3, 1948. He attended the Worthington grade school and graduated from the Queen City High School with the class of 1967. After graduation he attended USTS in Kansas City.

In 1969 he was inducted into the United States Army where he was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. On August 3, 1969, in Worthington, MO he was married to Kathy Trammel. They made their home in Fayetteville, North Carolina for one year. Upon his discharge from the service they moved to rural Queen City.

Clint managed several body shops in Kirksville, he had his own grocery store and body and fender repair, and for the last thirty-four years was an over the rode owner operator truck driver where he ran the lower forty-eight, Canada, and Alaska, making friends where-ever he went.

He is survived by his wife Kathy; his two daughters, Melissa Crossgrove and husband Paul of Queen City, Scarlett Mohr and husband David of Memphis and Paige Anderson Owen who was thought of like a daughter; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Katelyn, Nicholas, and Jada Crossgrove of Queen City, and Lane, Ty, and Dylan Mohr of Memphis; his mother-in-law, Rose Lee Trammel of rural Queen City; aunt, Shirley Glover of Niceville, FL; uncle, Frank Deierling of Buffalo, IA; several cousins; two lifelong Army friends, Mike Fleming of Fayetteville, NC and Robin Moore of Doylestown, PA; and special friend, Jesse Ruggles of Worthington.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law John Trammel.

Clint was a member of the Lancaster Baptist Church and a member of Glenwood Masonic Lodge # 427 AF & AM.

He loved riding horses, fishing, collecting guns, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday (June 20, 2014) at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Lonnie Johnson officiating. Musical selections will be “Stroll Over Heaven With You” and “Lead Me Home”, organist will be Darla Dixon. Burial with military rites will be in the Jimtown Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Quinten Smyser, Danny Welte, Jim Martin, Gary Martin, Charles Jones, and David Sidwell. Honorary Bearers will be Mike Fleming, Robin Moore, Mike Deierling, Jeff Glover, Jesse Ruggles, Bo Ridgeway, Nick Crossgrove, Lane Mohr, Ty Mohr, Dylan Mohr, Brittany Crossgrove, Katelyn Crossgrove, and Jada Crossgrove.

Visitation will be after noon Thursday (June 19, 2014) with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at the
